Press Release Summary: Volitional Music to Celebrate Launch with Competitions for Original Unpublished Works; Prize Money Available
Press Release Body: Volitional Music, a new contemporary classical music label scheduled to launch in 2009, is seeking original compositions and arrangements from composers and artists around the world. In celebration, the label is announcing six inaugural competitions, each with a different focus and theme. They are:
1. Best New Multi-Movement Miniature 2. Best New Piece of Night Music 3. Best New Arrangement for Solo Piano: Op 5 No 1, Sergei Rachmaninoff 4. Best New Arrangement of Any Work by J.S. Bach 5. Best New Set of Variations 6. Best New Interpretation of an Existing Work, Solo Piano
Some of the categories are open to all instrumentations, while others are for piano only. All entries will be considered for an opportunity to publish and record with Volitional Music, and one winning entry in each category will also win a prize of US$500. Entries must be original, unpublished works (or arrangements, as the case may be).
“The goal of the label is to attract a new generation of musical artistry, and the purpose of the competitions are to jumpstart us in that direction,” said a spokesperson for Volitional Music. “We believe that there is plenty still to be said—that musical expression was not exhausted with the composers of past eras, and that we can continue that spirit with something other than today’s postmodernist fare.”
Submission deadlines are tentatively set for December 31, 2008. Complete details, including rules and submission instructions, will be made available on the Volitional Music website shortly.
